Description

These 100% rayon fibre, two-tone scarves are hand loomed by women in Mae La and Um Phiem refugee camps on the Thai-Burma border. They are intricately woven with a traditional pattern inspired by eyes and take five days to make. Weftshop's shawls can be worn as a throw or a more substantial scarf, and are suitable for casual wear or for something more elegant!

All of Weftshop's shawls are woven by refugee weavers involved in Women’s Education for Advancement and Empowerment (WEAVE) on the Thai-Burma border. WEAVE strives to create a world where empowered women and their children are free to exercise their rights and live peacefully in a just, humane and equitable society. WEAVE’s projects attempt to address some of the problems faced by marginalised ethnic women and their children from Burma in the key areas of education, health, economic empowerment and self reliance.
